...Jan is an avid collector. He can't part with anything! Once he's done drawing another hilarious story, he creates an exact copy of the drawing for himself, because the prototype unfortunately has to be delivered to Jumbo. Over the years, Jan has amassed a hefty pile of sketches and drawings. He also collects all correspondence with fans, regardless of whether they are fans faithful for years or those who are just getting acquainted with his work. John knows the details of each of these letters and can tell the story behind their sending.

...John sometimes appears personally in his puzzles and comics. As a rule, John always tries to draw fictional characters, not people he actually knows. From time to time, however, Jan puts his own self-portrait in the drawing. Jan refers to this as the "Hitchcock effect", a famous director who also had cameo roles in his films.

...Jan never puts together "his" puzzles by himself. However, he willingly helps his wife when she cannot find any of the elements. To his own surprise, he is able to identify each element in no time and put it in the right place.
