electric multiple unit EN57 PKP
Between 1961 and 1993, the state-owned PAFAWAG factory in WrocΕaw produced 1,412 EN57 multiple units for PKP. These units reached a maximum speed
of 110 km/h and from the beginning found employment in regional and agglomeration traffic, also in the Tricity Fast Urban Railway. The complete unit consists of three permanently connected sections: two distribution sections and a motor section in the middle, containing most of the electrical apparatus. By means of Scharfenberg couplings located on the fronts, it is possible to connect up to 3 units for multiple driving. The interior of each section is divided into three compartments, with the shunting sections having one compartment for passengers with larger hand luggage, accessed from the outside by double-leaf, manually opened doors. The first series of units were characterized by corrugated side walls and three windows in the front walls.
As the prototype for the development of the first model of the EN57 team, PIKO chose a vehicle from the early 90s of the last century, characterized by an external appearance similar to the factory condition. Therefore, the side walls of the model are covered with subtly made grooves. The doors are made as separate elements and have glass with an appropriate print on the inside. The other windows are also flush with the side walls. The characteristic front walls with three panes are recreated in accordance with the original and supplemented with photo-etched doormats, mirrors, and also made as a separate element of the trumpet. The roof installation is a real eye-catcher, especially on the motor unit: filigree wires and insulators are proof of the craftsmanship in model construction. An equally high level of workmanship is represented by the apparatus placed under the floor of the assembly and trolleys. The drive is placed in the middle section. It houses a powerful twin-flywheel motor that drives all four axles via cardan shafts. The tractive force is increased by two traction rims placed diagonally on the inner wheels of the axles. In the motor unit there is a printed circuit board with a PluX22 connector. The digital variants of the model are factory-fitted with a PIKO sound decoder.
