Macao Card Game

Card game Macao - one of the popular card games

Macao (also known as Crazy Eights or Swedish Rummy) is a simple card game in which players lay cards on the table in turn, trying to get rid of all their cards as quickly as possible. Players draw cards from a deck or from a pile of open cards, trying to avoid drawing a penalty for not having a matching card, the winner is the first player to get rid of all their cards.
Makao's rules are very simple and easy to remember, which makes it a great game for people of all ages. It can be played with several people or in a duo. Here are the basic rules of playing classic Macao:
  1. You need playing cards (e.g. a deck of 52 cards) and several players. You can play in multiplayer or as a duo.
  2. Each player is dealt eight cards. The rest of the cards are placed on the table to form a deck. One card is revealed from the deck, which creates a faceup pile.
  3. The starting player places any card of the same suit or face on the tableau as the card on the tableau. If a player does not have a matching card, he must draw one card from the deck. If this card matches, he may place it on the table immediately. If it doesn't match, he has to hold it in his hand and the game goes to the next player.
  4. When there is an eight on the table, the next player in turn may play any card of the same suit or face as the card on the table or an eight of any suit. The player who played the eight card can decide what color will be used for the rest of the game.
  5. Players lay their cards on the table, trying to get rid of all their cards as quickly as possible. The game proceeds clockwise.
  6. When a player gets rid of all their cards, they win the round. In a multi-player game, the other players score points for each card they still have in their hand. The first player to reach a certain number of points (e.g. 50 or 100) wins the entire game. In the case of a duo game, the winner is the first pair to reach a certain number of points.
  7. If the deck runs out, players continue with the faceup pile. When the faceup pile is over, players can place cards without having to draw from the deck or faceup pile. The game continues until one player gets rid of all their cards.

< span style="background-color: transparent;" >There are some additional rules that can be used in Macao. Here are some examples:
  • Express rule: If a player has a hand of an eight and a card of the same suit or face as the card on the table, he can lay both cards at once by saying "express". The player who played the express decides which color will be used for the rest of the game.
  • "Double express" rule: If a player has a hand of two eight and two cards of the same suit or face as the card on the table, he can lay down all four cards at once by saying "double express". The player who played the double express decides which color will be used for the rest of the game.
  • Rule of "reveal": If a player does not have a matching card, he may reveal one of the cards in his hand and put it on the table if it matches the game. The player must name the face up card so that other players know what they have in their hand. If a player does not have a suitable card to play, they must draw one from the deck or face up pile.
In addition to these basic rules, there are also some modifications to Macao that change the way the game is played. Here are some examples:
  • Five Card Macao: This version of the game is similar to the standard Macao game, but players are dealt five cards at the start of the game instead of eight. The rest of the rules are the same.
  • Joker Macao: A joker is added to the game, which is treated as an eight card and can be played at any time to replace another card. The player decides what color will be used in the next game.
  • Macao with a joker and two eight cards: In this version of the game, a joker and two eight cards are treated as eight cards and can be played at any time to replace another card. The player decides what color will be used in the next game.
  • Macao with eight and joker cards: In this version of the game, the eight and joker cards are treated as eight cards and can be played at any time to replace another card. The player decides what color will be used in the next game.
These Macao mods are optional and can be applied or ignored based on player preference. It is important that all players know the rules before starting the game.
